We believe Skill & Work Ethic Aren't Taboo.

Why we're talking about work ethic.

And we're walking the walk.

We believe hard work, determination, and respect for others are always in demand, and these principles can form the basis of a new kind of curriculum that helps bolster the American workforce.

As a result, we've created the MRW Work Ethic Certification, a post-secondary curriculum that focuses on the 12 statements of the S.W.E.A.T. Pledge. Through this program, we break down the origin of each statement in 12 lessons and examine why we believe every student and worker can benefit from embracing this pledge, regardless of their job or skillset.

How we're bringing The S.W.E.A.T. Pledge to life.

Say what?

Well, not literally. Each statement of The S.W.E.A.T. Pledge has a story, and each story comes from Mike's personal experience working with entrepreneurs and hardworking people across the country. Through these 12 videos, we explore each statement of The S.W.E.A.T. Pledge and the importance of four pillars— work ethic, personal responsibility, delayed gratification, and a positive attitude.

Another mikeroweWORKS Success Story

Surprise, Surprise!

Mike Rowe crashes a video shoot to surprise two recipients who attended the same construction program and are now working together on a project. Carlyn and Victoria were the leaders of their class and are just the kind of people he started the mikeroweWORKS Foundation to help.

Carlyn, the Fix-It Mom

Not long ago, Carlyn was a stay-at-home mom who wanted to learn a few basic construction skills and fix up her house. That desire led to a hobby, and soon, that hobby got out of hand. Next thing you know, Carlyn applied for and received a work ethic scholarship. Today, she’s the proud owner of Proverbs 31 Construction.

Hard Hats & Heels

Victoria Knight traded in her scrubs and nursing school debt for 2 x 4’s and a toolbelt. At 24 years old, she is now her own boss, and she wants to empower more women to work in construction.

Go, Gamez, Go!

If you want proof that hard work, a positive attitude, and a willingness to drive across town at oh-dark-thirty still pays dividends, say hello to Michael Gamez.

Meet John Fitzpatrick.

There were two surprising things about John Fitzpatrick’s Work Ethic Scholarship application: It was written within the prison walls where John was incarcerated, and it was one of the best applications we’d ever received.

Miguel’s Got Skills!

Miguel Gomez embraces the S.W.E.A.T. Pledge, particularly Pledge 12, because he chooses to work his butt off.  As a journeyman plumber, Miguel has mastered a trade that allows him to work anywhere in the world.  Plumbing isn’t just a job—it’s a skill.

I'm told it's a great conversation starter."
